The new course starts near the Cathedral in St. Paul, runs down Summit Avenue into quiet St. Paul neighborhoods, threads a loop of the Mississippi before arriving at Get in Gear’s traditional Minnehaha Falls finish line.

  • The 2024 Get in Gear Medtronic Half Marathon is SOLD OUT!

  • Parking & Transportation:

    2024 Get in Gear Medtronic Half Marathon participants will park near the Start Area and be bused back to the parking areas after finishing the half marathon. Designated Start Area Parking locations will open at 7:30 AM, and participants are recommended to arrive to the Start Area at least 60-75 minutes in advance of the Medtronic Half Marathon start if they are picking up their packet on race day and at least 45-60 minutes in advance of the Medtronic Half Marathon start if they have picked up their packets in advance. Free buses back to the Start Area will run from the Finish Area at Minnehaha Regional Park (in the loop next to the Sea Salt building) beginning at 10:45 AM, dropping off half marathon participants at designated Start Area Parking locations, with the final bus departing at 12:30 PM.

    Designated Half Marathon Start Area Parking and Drop-off Location Information:

    Parking is available first-come-first-serve to half marathon participants at these locations: 

    • St. Paul College (235 Marshall Ave, Saint Paul): Free (arrive early to assure your spot!) 

      • Entrances are off Concordia Ave, W Kellogg Blvd, and Marshall Ave 

      • Upon arriving, please follow signage and volunteer instructions 

      • Return Buses will drop you off at this location 

    • Minnesota History Center Kellogg Center (328 Kellogg Blvd W, Saint Paul): $10 

      • Entrance is off of Mulberry St 

      • Upon arriving, please follow signage and volunteer instructions 

      • Return Buses will drop you off at this location 

    • Numerous area parking ramps located a short walk down Kellogg Blvd from the Start Area are listed here: Paid (rates vary) 

      • These lots will not be staffed by event staff or volunteers 

      • Return Buses will not drop you off at these locations; you will likely want to be dropped off at the Minnesota History Center Kellogg Center and then walk to your parking spot, but this may vary depending on where you choose to park 

    • If you are being dropped off in the Start Area, the suggested Drop-off Location is on Old Kellogg Blvd between Mulberry St and College Ave W 

     

    Please park in the designated locations listed above and be sure to remember where you parked. If you choose to use street parking, you must follow all parking restrictions and we ask that you please be mindful of your impact on surrounding neighborhoods. Twin Cities In Motion is not liable for lost, stolen, damaged, or towed vehicles or property. 

     

    Return Bus Information:

    Free buses back to the Start Area will run from the Finish Area at Minnehaha Regional Park (in the traffic circle off S Minnehaha Dr near Sea Salt) beginning at 10:45 AM, dropping off Medtronic Half Marathon participants at designated Start Area Parking locations, with the final bus departing at 12:30 PM: 

    Metro Transit Partnership:

    All registered Get in Gear participants and volunteers will have access to Metropolitan Council transportation (bus and light rail) at no charge on Saturday, April 27th (5 AM – 1 PM). To redeem, participants and volunteers can download the pass online, or print the pass, and present it to driver. 

     

    The Medtronic Half Marathon Start Area is accessible via the 21A bus route, and the Finish Area is accessible via the 50th St & Minnehaha Blue Line Light Rail Station. Check the Metro Transit website for route and schedule information.

    The Radisson is located half a mile from the Medtronic Half Marathon Start Area. The block rate is available from $119/night for 2 Queen Beds and includes complimentary breakfast.

  • Start Area Information

    • Participants will line up according to their pace in the single Half Marathon start corral.

    • Athletes with disabilities will start at 8:55 AM. Rest of participants will start at 9 AM. Start line will close at 9:05 AM. 

    • The Start Line is located on Summit Ave just north of the intersection with Selby Ave.

    • Participants will line up according to pace in the single Medtronic Half Marathon Start Corral

      • Fastest runners will start nearer to Selby Ave and slower runners will start nearer to the State Capitol.

    • Medtronic ​Half Marathon Start Area Amenities (including Parking, Packet Pick Up, Gear Check, and Portable Toilets) and will open to participants at 7:30 AM.

      • Gear Check and packet Pick-up will be located in the main Saint Paul Cathedral Parking Lot (235 Summit Ave).

      • Portalets will be located on the north side of Dayton Ave just north of the Saint Paul Cathedral (here)

  • Medtronic Half Marathon participants will be able to check their gear in the Gear Check Drop-off Area located in the main Saint Paul Cathedral Parking Lot (235 Summit Ave) beginning at 7:30 AM until 8:45 AM. These bags will be transported to the Gear Check Area in Minnehaha Regional Park and available for pick-up there beginning at 10:15 AM until Gear Check Pick-up closes at 12:15 PM.

    Please take note of the following details related to this free, race-day service:   

    • Personal bags will not be accepted   

    • Clear, plastic bags will be available on race day  

    • Do NOT leave bags unattended on race day at any time   

    • Affix the gear check tag from race bib to the plastic bag using the tie provided at the gear check drop zone   

    • Tie bags securely shut before dropping at the gear check drop zone   

    • Do not check valuables, Twin Cities In Motion is not responsible for lost or stolen items   

    • We discourage runners and spectators from carrying non-transparent bags at the event at any time 

  • Get in Gear Medtronic Half Marathon participants must be able to maintain a 13:44-minute-per-mile pace (3 hour finish time) throughout the race due to course limits. ​

    • Course crosses the Mississippi River three times.

    • Gel packs will be available only at the fluid station located at approximately 8.25 miles. The gels available are Pure Fuel by Anderson’s Maple Syrup.

    • We are recycling your used gel packs. You will be able to dispose of them at the fluid stations at approximately 6.5 miles, 8.25 miles and 10.5 miles.

  • New this year, Run Minnesota is providing the official in-person training program for the Get in Gear 10K and Medtronic Half Marathon.

     

    You can register for the training program as an add-on to your registration or learn more about the training program and register directly with Run Minnesota here. The training program registration fee is $275, and $220 for Run Minnesota and TCM members ($55 savings!). 

    Hosted in the Twin Cities and led by certified coaches, Run Minnesota group training includes Tuesday and Saturday supported group runs, a training plan with multiple mileage options designed to meet the needs of everyone from beginners to more experienced runners, twice weekly workout emails from your coach and a training shirt. And -- recently added! --Tuesday workouts will be held primarily indoors at the University of Minnesota Fieldhouse through March 5, to better support trainees through tough winter conditions.

  • Participants in the virtual Half Marathon will be able to submit results  April 1 – December 31, 2024.  Submit your results here

    Gear will be mailed to the shipping address provided at the time of registration by Friday, May 10, 2024. Any changes to your address must be sent to [email protected] prior to  Friday, March 29, 2024. Additional charges or delays in shipping may apply for incorrect addresses. 

  • The Get in Gear Medtronic Half Marathon will have Race Pacers, presented by Medtronic. Charge your run with the right beat and shoot for your goal!

  • Friends and family are welcome to come to the race, bring a motivational sign, and watch and cheer on participants! As always, please be respectful of private property and do not enter the race course. Pedestrians are permitted to cross the course at intersections where race officials are present to direct foot traffic.  Download theTwin Cities In Motion App, presented by Medtronic,  to track runners! 

    Spectator Parking & Transportation

    Spectator parking is available near the Finish Area at the Fort Snelling Parking Lots (South Lot, 6000 Minnehaha Ave, St Paul, MN). There is no designated spectator parking near the Half Marathon Start Area.

    There is designated participant and spectator parking at the park & ride lots for the Fort Snelling Light Rail Station. The designated lots are Fort Snelling North and Fort Snelling South.  Spectators can either pay onsite or use the Metro Transit app to purchase tickets ahead of time after creating an account. There are two types of passes All-Day and 2.5-hour passes. For fare amounts please check here.  

    Light Rail Directions:

    • Ride the light rail from Fort Snelling Station to the Minnehaha/50th St Station.  

    • Safely cross Hiawatha at the traffic light. 

    • Follow the path and signage to race area. 

    Total trip time ranges from 15-30 minutes depending on where you park.

  • Age group awards will be available at the packet pick-up tent after participants finish starting at 10:45 a.m. for categories of men, women and non-binary athletes placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in their age group. Age groups include 8 & under, 9-13, 14-18, 19-24, and continue in five-year increments until the 80+ age group. Athletes registered under “prefer not to disclose” for gender are not eligible for age group awards. 

     

    The Get in Gear Medtronic Half Marathon is the 2024 Minnesota RRCA State Championship and awards will be mailed to award winners after the event.

    Prize money for the half marathon will be awarded to the top three men, women, and non-binary athletes:

    ·       1st place - $500

    ·       2nd place - $250

    ·       3rd place - $100

     

    Complimentary entries to next years event will be awarded to the top 3 overall men, women, and non-binary athletes in the Get in Gear 10K and Get in Gear Medtronic Half Marathon. Codes to register for the event will be sent out in December 2024. The alternative standard for a comped entry into the Get in Gear 10K and Get in Gear Medtronic Half Marathon is to have run an 85%+ age-graded performance in the last two years (there are only a limited number of these available).
