Volunteer & Registration Management Internship

Volunteer & Registration Management Intern serves as part of the high caliber Twin Cities In Motion (TCM) team, which has planned and executed the region’s premier running events since 1982. Its mission is simple - ignite everyone’s inner athlete.   

TCM is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit that organizes eight races with 27 distances throughout the year, including the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, to provide opportunities for people of all ages, abilities, and experiences to live an active, healthy lifestyle. Collectively, TCM and its charity partners that fundraise at TCM events give back more than $1 million annually to a variety of causes. 

The Volunteer & Registration intern position will support two departments within TCM, which will be exposed to a broad array of volunteer and registration duties.  This role will provide support for the following: 

  • The areas of volunteer recruitment and management, the Charity Program, and additional outreach efforts as needed  

  • The registration platform, volunteer committee management, packet pick-up, and customer service 

This intern will report to the Executive Director 

Responsibilities: 

Volunteers 

  • Work with staff and appropriate Division Director to identify volunteer needs for all events  

  • Manage recruitment efforts to retain nearly 5,000 race-day volunteers for year-round events   

  • Oversee recruitment of new volunteer groups, collateral, applications, registration coordination and instructional messaging   

  • Manage volunteer registration software platform, including updates and messaging  

  • Along with the Volunteer Recruitment Division, oversee race day operations and execution of volunteers 

  Registration 

  • Assist with sponsors to activate their registration entitlements 

  • Assist in creating online registrations and management of the registration data   

  • Assist in management of the Corporate Team Challenge program 

  • Assist with charity team to activate their registration entitlements  

  • Co-manage packet pick up for various events 

  • Assist with customer service 

General office  

  • Support office staff and volunteers with various office projects and other administrative functions as required 

  • Commit to being trained as a knowledgeable and approachable TCM Ambassador at events, in the community and through requested outreach 

  • Additional intern responsibilities include:  

  • Attending association meetings and event walk through meetings as requested 

  • Lead designated area on race day 

  • Other duties as assigned 

Qualifications: 

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills  

  • Able to facilitate successful relationships with school groups, community groups, and corporations 

  • Must display high attention to detail and be conscientious 

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office 

  • Able to prioritize and work in a busy, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment 

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously 

  • Ability to regularly lift weights for events up to 25 lbs. and occasionally weights up to 40 lbs. 

  • Must be available to attend and work at TCM events, sometimes on weekends or in the evenings  

  • Mandatory 2021 event dates: 

  • Twin Cities Orthopedics’ Women Run the Cities Presented by PNC Bank: Monday, July 19-Saturday, July 24 

  • Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend: Monday, September 27-Sunday, October 3  

  • Excellent customer service skills (phone/email/in person) 

  • Desire to be a team player – working with staff, volunteers, and event participants 

Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday office hours, evening and weekend hours to be mutually agreed upon to support events, meetings and community outreach 

Hours Per Week: 15 per week; increase in hours as available for events and meetings 

Compensation: Minimum wage
