The Twin Cities In Motion (TCM) Internships serve as part of a high caliber team that plan and execute the region’s premier running events.
TCM is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit that organizes 5 race events and with a number of distances throughout the year, including the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon. We provide opportunities for people of all ages, abilities, and experiences to live an active, healthy lifestyle. Our mission is simple - ignite everyone’s inner athlete.
The Event Management intern position will support two departments within TCM, which will be exposed to a broad array of volunteer and registration duties. This role will provide support for the following:

The areas of volunteer recruitment and management, volunteer committee support and additional outreach efforts as needed (see examples below under volunteers).

The registration platform, packet pick-up, and customer service.
This intern will report to the Senior Volunteers Manager and Senior Registration Coordinator.
Responsibilities:
Volunteers
-
Work with staff and appropriate Division Director to identify volunteer needs for all events
-
Assist with recruitment efforts to retain nearly 5,000 volunteers (Association and race-day) for year-round events
-
Assist with recruitment of new volunteer groups, collateral, applications, registration coordination, promotional and instructional messaging
-
Assist with registration software platform, including updates and messaging
-
Along with the Volunteer Recruitment Division, assist in race day operations and execution of volunteers
-
Assist with prepping volunteer supplies, t-shirts, gear, and other warehouse duties as needed
-
Assist with outreach initiatives such as school outreach, including High School Running Shoe program and donation certificates
Registration
-
Co-manage packet pick up for various events
-
Assist with registration customer service inquiries
-
Assist in creating online registrations and management of the registration software
-
Managing registration tracking and data reporting
-
Assist in management of the special registration programs (codes and discounts)
-
execution of volunteers
-
Assist with prepping registration supplies and other warehouse duties as needed
General office
-
Support office staff and volunteers with various office projects and other administrative functions as required
-
Commit to being trained as a knowledgeable and approachable TCM Ambassador at events, in the community and through requested outreach

Additional intern responsibilities include:

Attending association meetings, event walk through meetings as requested and All Association Banquet

Assist in leading designated registration or volunteer area on race day (to be assigned on an event-by-event basis)

Qualifications:

Job Responsibilities
The Social Media and Marketing Intern is a part-time position that assists with the execution of social media content, customer service and website and TCM app administration. This position will report to the Social Media & Digital Engagement Manager.

Draft, manage and monitor social media campaigns for various audiences using appropriate tone and branding

Serving as a valued member of Twin Cities In Motion’s (TCM) Leadership Team (LT), this position supports efficient and effective organizational workflow. Supporting management in the areas of reporting, planning, scheduling, and organizing tasks that keep time and resources focused on delivering upon the organization’s Strategic Plan (Playbook) and the related goals, events, and services that make-up TCM’s Community Service Portfolio (CSP). This position also serves as a liaison to the board of directors, volunteers, and community partners.
The Leadership Team Coordinator & Portfolio Support Specialist must be creative and enjoy working within an entrepreneurial team environment. The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise good judgment in a diversity of situations, with strong written and verbal communication, administrative, and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership Team Coordinator:

Based upon TCM’s Playbook and CSP, support the President & Leadership Team (LT) in successfully delivering against annual business-plans.

Coordinate and manage the President’s schedule and provide administrative support as needed for all members of the Leadership Team.

Serves as a liaison to the Board of Directors, volunteers, and community partners.

Prepare, edit, maintain correspondence, communication, and other documents for the Leadership Team and Board.

With direction from the President and LT develop, implement, and maintain TCM’s annual Master Planning Calendar that supports all cross-functional teams in the coordination and delivery of TCM’s Playbook & CSP.

Actively manage day-to-day coordination for TCM’s new Twin Cities Motion Center and related support services around a shared Activation Calendar. Role will represent TCM by working closely with internal Founding Motion Partners and TCM staff as well as externally with other non-profit organizations, partners, vendors, and stakeholders --- all to support a growing level of motion community programs and services.

Assist Sr. Human Resource & Accounting Manager with other office & facility duties as requested.

Assist with coordination of special events such as VIP Reception, Staff Retreat and other special projects as assigned.
Portfolio Support Specialist:

Working with the LT, staff and volunteer support within all process phases, the advancement of product development and evaluation within TCM’s Community Service Portfolio (CSP).

Support the LT in the continual advancement of TCM’s Playbook, helping ensuring progress on agreed strategies, including the developing and presenting of quarterly progress reports as well as updating other key reports and product profiles.

Help advance and support an environment where great ideas are heard, evaluated, and invested in.

Support TCM being a data driven and informed organization across all business disciplines; including tracking resource changes, risks and apply learnings for future projects

Evaluate CSP offerings and related activities to determine if targeted outcomes are being successfully achieved; providing information for reports and records through research, data retrieval, compiling and/or tabulating statistics and presenting the information in useable and understandable formats

Analyze consumer needs, assess current competitor offerings, and market trends, and potential partnerships.

Organize key stakeholders to align resources to project plans to achieve desired outcomes
Skills and Qualifications:

In this exciting role, you will be responsible for merchandise buying, in-person and online store management, customer sales & service, and order fulfillment. In addition to supporting day-to-day merchandise duties, this position plays a key role in the success of pop-up retail sales at all of TCM events, including the Medtronic Twin Cities Weekend expo store.

Under supervision and guidance, play a lead role in delivering against an annual sales plan, including management of monthly forecasts, sales strategies, risk management, and long-term budgeting

Contribute to the development of new goods and retail strategies, identifying business opportunities based on the market demands to drive revenues and increase profitability

Track inventory, negotiate with suppliers, manage deliveries, and devise on how to minimize costs without compromising merchandise quality

Oversee TCM’s e-commerce, online website and in-person Motion Center retail store; including inventory management, product setup, sales plans, and store merchandising

Support staff, partners, and volunteers at the Motion Center as a Community Enagagement Coordinator – working with the team to incorporate and support retail strategies and guest experiences as part of growing programs and services organized around the Motion Center’s monthly community activation calander

Serve as staff lead for TCM pop-up retail stores, including the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon weekend expo store. Duties include ordering, quality control, pricing, store staffing, technology lead and other needs as assigned
