Event Management Internship

Event Management Interns serve as part of the high caliber Twin Cities In Motion (TCM) team, which has planned and executed the region’s premier running events since 1982. Its mission is simple - ignite everyone’s inner athlete.

TCM is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit that organizes five races with 17 distances throughout the year, including the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, to provide opportunities for people of all ages, abilities, and experiences to live an active, healthy lifestyle. Collectively, TCM and its charity partners that fundraise at TCM events give back more than $1 million annually to a variety of causes.

Two Event Management Intern positions are available within the Race Operations team. While the Event Management Interns will be exposed to a broad array of event management experiences, the primary focus of both positions will be:  

  • Event operations planning
  • Vendor research, management, and coordination

  • Warehouse, inventory, and day-to-day operations   

 

Both interns will report to members of the Race Operations team.  

Responsibilities:  

  • Assist in the planning and execution of TCM events as assigned  

  • Create and update documentation of assigned TCM event operations plans as assigned  

  • Research vendor options and coordinate equipment orders for events  

  • Assist in the permit application process with city and state agencies

  • Support office staff and race committee volunteers with inventory management and organization of materials and supplies before, during and after events

  • Support the Warehouse Coordinator with inventory management and warehouse operations

  • Assist in road closure postings and event notifications to businesses and residents along race routes

  • Assist in virtual event and customer service fulfillment

  • Provide customer service to participants, sponsors and volunteers

  • Support office staff and volunteers with various office projects and other administrative functions as required

  • Commit to being trained as a knowledgeable and approachable TCM Ambassador at events, in the community and through requested outreach

  • Additional intern responsibilities include:

    • Attending association meetings and event walk through meetings as requested  

    • Lead designated area on race day  

    • Other duties as assigned  

Qualifications:  

  • Excellent communication and organizational skills  

  • Must display high attention to detail and be conscientious  

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office  

  • Able to prioritize and work in a busy, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment  

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

  • Ability to regularly lift weights for events up to 25 lbs. and occasionally weights up to 40 lbs.

  • Must be available to attend and work at TCM events, sometimes on weekends or in the evenings

    • Twin Cities Orthopedics’ Women Run the Cities Presented by PNC Bank: Monday, May 16 - Saturday, May 21 
    • Red, White & Boom! Monday, June 27 – Monday, July 4 
    • Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend: Monday, September 26-Sunday, October 2 
  • Excellent customer service skills (phone/email/in person)  

  • Desire to be a team player – working with staff, volunteers, and event participants  
     

Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday office hours, evening and weekend hours to be mutually agreed upon to support events, meetings and community outreach  

Hours Per Week: 15 per week; increase in hours as available for events and meetings  

Compensation: Minimum wage
