It is with sadness that we inform you that the 2020 Hot Dash 5K & 10 Mile has been cancelled due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19 (Novel Coronavirus.) The event will not be rescheduled.
The decision was made with the support of Twin Cities In Motion medical director and in consultation with the Minneapolis Health Department. The safety of participants, spectators, volunteers and the community at large is Twin Cities In Motion’s top priority.
As a registrant, you will receive a partial credit for registration fees. 10 milers will receive a $20 credit, while 5K runners will receive $10. We are working on appropriate plans to distribute your medal and participant gear. Updated information on the credit and the distribution of event items will follow in the next two weeks.
Twin Cities In Motion continues planning for the rest of its 2020 events:
- Medtronic TC 1 Mile (May 7)
- TC Kids Cross Country Fun Run (May 16)
- Twin Cities Orthopedics’ Women Run the Cities, presented by PNC Bank (May 17)
- Red, White & Boom! TC Half Marathon, presented by Summit Brewing Co. (July 4)
- Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend (Oct 2-4)
TCM will monitor the COVID-19 situation with its medical team and public health authorities and update the status of individual events as necessary.
Twin Cities In Motion thanks you for your enthusiasm for the 2020 Hot Dash. We share in your disappointment that the event cannot be run, and we wish you and your loved ones well during these stressful times.
The Staff, Hot Dash Committee and Board of Directors of Twin Cities In Motion.
Frequently Asked Questions About the Cancellation
Why are you only offering a credit and not a refund due to the cancellation?
We are offering a credit plus the medal and race gear as compensation for the cancellation. As part of the race planning process, certain fixed costs (shirts, medals, vendor deposits, etc.) are unrecoverable for event producers like TCM, thus the necessity for no refund policies like ours.
How was the amount of the credit determined?
The credit amount was based on the unrecoverable race overhead costs and scaled to the race distance registrants chose, in a manner that we deemed fair to the customer and sustainable for TCM, a nonprofit.
Why isn’t TCM rescheduling the event?
Due to the uncertainty of the COVID-19 emergency timeframe and the limited availability of Minneapolis Park Board event permit dates at the other times of the year, postponement was not a practical solution for TCM.
When and how will I receive my medal and participant gear?
We are still working on details for the appropriate means of distributing race medals and participant gear during the emergency. Expect more information on the process by March 27. Please do not come to the TCM office for your items at this time.
Are any of TCM’s other 2020 races going to be cancelled?
We are still preparing to hold the rest of our 2020 calendar of events as scheduled. The COVID-19 emergency is fluid, so TCM will follow the guidance of public health officials. The safety of our participants, volunteers, staff, and the community is our first priority.
Will my Run Three Guarantee for the Medtronic TC 10 Mile be affected by the cancellation?
No. The Hot Dash will still count toward your Run 3 Guarantee despite the cancellation.
Will I still earn Rewards in Motion points and race credit for the Hot Dash?
Yes. Registrants will earn points for the purchase and the race will count toward tier status despite the cancellation.
I have a question that’s not addressed above. Where can I get answers?
