Responsible for helping promote Twin Cities In Motion, Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend and other events throughout the year. It does so through media relations, mascot appearances, race enhancement promotions, social media, and more. The TCM/Marathon branding is also conveyed through the selection and design of merchandise made available for purchase throughout the year. This division is an integral part of the promotion of the organization. MPR Committees Include: Marketing & Experience Committee (MEC), Digital Marketing Committee (DMC), and Merchandise.

Marketing & Public Relations Division

Merchandise Committee Member

3 positions available

Role Summary:

Providing superior guest experience at TCM merchandise store.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Attend committee meetings (approximately 4-5 per year)
  • Attend Marathon Weekend
    • Thursday Expo Store Setup – hanging merchandise, wrapping cups, moving racks etc.
    • Guest Check Out Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
    • Floor Support Friday and Saturday – replenishing, re-hanging, folding, and interacting with guests
    • Floor security
    • Time commitment – Must work 3 of the 4 days during Marathon weekend – 5-hour increments each for a total of at least 15 hours
  • Work one off-season event in the festival merchandise booth (Hot Dash, Women Run the Cities or Red, White & Boom!

Skill Set:

  • Communication skills & management of other volunteers

Digital Marketing Committee (DMC)

Role Summary:

The key role of the team member on the Digital Marketing Committee is to provide significant social media support during Twin Cities In Motion (TCM) events. Team members represent TCM’s brand, voice and identity while creatively covering events on multiple social media platforms and prioritizing customer service needs. Team members’ specific duties vary by person and event, but include availability during event times, posting engaging, high-quality content on social media, and informal interviewing of race winners, and race-day social media customer service (usually via remote location). Committee members attend meetings to help brainstorm new ideas, contribute to team-selected efforts, and support content development efforts to reach registration and brand identity goals. All members are leads in the execution of social media and communications operations during the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in monthly DMC meetings
  • Be familiar with TCM and event branding
  • Attend TCM events as assigned
  • Provide significant social media support during TCM events using personal device(s) including original content creation and customer engagement/service
  • Be alert and maintain reliable communication with staff members
  • Conduct interviews and develop content to support professional athlete social media efforts
  • Enthusiasm for the Twin Cities In Motion mission
  • Above average communication skills and ability to provide direction
  • A positive attitude

Skill Set:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in social media channels, specifically Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (professional experience preferred)
  • Excellent customer service skills (writing)
  • Able to work as part of a team – interacting with both staff and fellow volunteers
  • Able to work independently while meeting deadlines important to teammates and the organization
  • An enthusiasm for running and/or fitness

Digital Marketing Committee (DMC) Videographer

Role Summary:

The key role of the videographer team member on the Digital Marketing Committee is to produce video content year round for Twin Cities In Motion (TCM) events. Team members represent TCM’s brand, voice and identity while creatively producing event videos for on multiple social media platforms. This member’s work will be project based and may create videos for registration launch, TCM announcement videos, promotional content, event day coverage and more. Committee members attend meetings to help brainstorm new ideas, contribute to team-selected efforts, and support content development efforts to reach registration and brand identity goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in monthly DMC meetings
  • Be familiar with TCM and event branding
  • Attend TCM events as assigned
  • Provide video production for project-based assignments
  • Be alert and maintain reliable communication with staff members
  • Enthusiasm for the Twin Cities In Motion mission
  • Above average communication skills and ability to provide direction
  • A positive attitude

Skill Set:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Experience in social media channels, specifically Facebook, Twitter and Instagram (professional experience preferred)

Marketing & Experience Committee (MEC)

Role Summary:

The MEC volunteer will join an energetic and creative team whose purpose is to support TCM by assisting with marketing activities and enhancing the participant experience, both digitally and in-person*. Volunteer is expected to act as a positive and knowledgeable TCM brand ambassador in the community, attend committee meetings, and volunteer as assigned on race-day*.

As a year-round MEC volunteer and committee member, primary responsibilities include brainstorming digital content and improving on-course and post-race* participant experience and entertainment at various events including Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend, Women Run the Cities and Hot Dash 5K & 10 Mile.

MEC members can often be found actively engaging and encouraging positive energy with participants and those around them, while helping to set up and lead excitement at cheer zones, race festivals, photo stops, hosting bingo nights and more. If you think this sounds like fun, please join us!
