The Marketing and Public Relations (MPR) Division is responsible for helping promote Twin Cities In Motion, Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend and other events throughout the year. It does so through media relations, content creation, race enhancement promotions, social media, and more. The TCM/marathon branding is also conveyed through the selection and design of merchandise made available for purchase throughout the year. This division is an integral part of the promotion of the organization. MPR Committees Include: Social Media (SMC), Content Creation & Media Relations (CCMR) and Merchandise. See available positions and their descriptions below:

Social Media Committee (SMC)

Role Summary: 

The key role of the team member on the Social Media Committee is to provide significant social media support during Twin Cities In Motion (TCM) events. Team members represent TCM’s brand, voice and identity while creatively covering events for multiple social media platforms and prioritizing customer service needs. Team members’ specific duties vary by person and event, but include availability during event times, capturing engaging, high-quality content for social media (including photo and video), informal interviewing of race winners, participants, and attendees, and race-day social media customer service (usually via remote location). Committee members attend meetings to help brainstorm new ideas, contribute to team-selected efforts, and support content development efforts to reach registration and brand identity goals. All members are leads in the execution of social media and communications operations during the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Participate in monthly SMC meetings 
  • Be familiar with TCM and event branding 
  • Attend TCM events as assigned 
  • Provide significant social media support during TCM events using personal device(s) including original content creation and customer engagement/service 
  • Be alert and maintain reliable communication with staff members 
  • Conduct interviews and develop content to support professional athlete social media efforts 
  • Enthusiasm for the Twin Cities In Motion mission 
  • Above average communication skills and ability to provide direction 
  • A positive attitude 

Skill Set: 

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills 
  • Experience in social media channels, specifically Facebook, Twitter and Instagram  
  • Experience in/enthusiasm for event photography/videography  
  • Able to capture video and photo quickly and creatively 
  • Creative mindset 
  • Excellent customer service skills (writing) 
  • Able to work as part of a team – interacting with both staff and fellow volunteers 
  • Able to work independently while meeting deadlines important to teammates and the organization 
  • An enthusiasm for running and/or fitness

Merchandise Committee Member

4 positions available

Role Summary:

The role of the Merchandise Committee is to provide superior guest experience during Marathon weekend and off-season events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Marathon Weekend (3 shifts over Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend)
    • Thursday Expo Store Setup – store merchandising, hanging apparel, wrapping mugs/pints, moving racks, etc.
    • Guest check out Friday, Saturday and Sunday
    • Store Support – replenishing, re-hanging, folding, and interacting with store guests
    • Store security
  • Off-Season Events (1 shift)
    • Guest check out at packet pick up or on event day
    • Replenish product as needed
  • Attend committee meetings

Skill Set:

  • Excellent verbal communication and customer service skills
  • Able to stand during shifts (3-4 hour shifts, with built in breaks)
  • Retail experience (a plus)
  • Merchandising experience (a plus)

Time Commitment:

  • Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend: Approximately 15 hours across 4 days
  • Off-season Event: Approximately 4 hours
  • Meetings: Approximately 3 meetings (1 hour each)
