TC Kids Run Free Program

Running and exercise offer proven positive outcomes for kids – physically, socially and academically – and Twin Cities In Motion now provides free access to its events to young runners. TCM believes in running and believes in kids. Active kids and an active next generation are good for our community's future.

TC Kids Run Free Program

As the first installment of a larger initiative to make TCM events accessible to all, starting in 2022, kids 18 years old and under can enter Twin Cities In Motion events at no cost!

With the TC Kids Run Free program, young runners are able to register for 5K (and longer!) events free via regular online registration. They will earn the same medals and gear provided to adults participating in the event and have access to race amenities.

For younger kids looking for race distances shorter than 5K, typically TCM’s shortest road race distance, they can sign up for free 1 mile, half mile and a pre-K-appropriate races organized in conjunction with all TCM events.

Youth running has long been a TCM mission priority. The organization introduced its first youth race at the 1987 marathon and has grown its programming over the ensuing years.

TC Kids Run Free entries are subject to availability.

High School Running Shoe Program

In order to keep teens participating in healthy activities without worrying about financing their equipment needs, the High School Running Shoe Program provides running shoes to high school athletes in need, who are participating on high school cross-country or track teams. With the help of local running shoe stores, TCM provides free donations of shoes to those high school athletes in need that attend school within the 7-country metro area of the Twin Cities. Certificates are valued at $80. They will be provided to High School Track and Cross Country Coaches to pass along to their athletes confidentially and will be distributed at the coach’s discretion.

Certificates will be redeemable at the following running stores:

  • FleetFeet Sports (Minneapolis)
  • Gear Running (Minneapolis)
  • Lakes Running (Excelsior)
  • Mill City Running (Minneapolis)
  • Right Fit Running (Blaine)
  • Run N’ Fun (St.Paul)
  • Saint City Running (St. Paul)
  • TC Running (Maple Grove and Eden Prairie)

Applications for the High School Running Shoe Program are due November 1.
