Participants receive a bottle of Dasani water and Clif Z bar upon finishing their race. Concessions will be available for purchase in the lobby of the fieldhouse from the University of Minnesota Women's Rugby Team.

Harry & Shelly

Cheer for TCM mascots Harry and Shelly as they kick off the morning with their own race! Last year Harry was distracted with high-fiving spectators and lost by a... hare. Harry and Shelly will be cheering on runners, handing out medals and posing for pictures!

Team USA Minnesota

Professional athletes from Team USA Minnesota want to join in on the fun! They lead the kids through warm-ups, cheer on runners, and inspire great runs through their interactions on the track.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.      When should I arrive?

Children in the "Parent + preschool wave", kindergarten, and first grade should arrive for check-in and be prepared to start by 9:00 a.m. Children in grades 2 - 8+ may arrive later (between 9:30 and 9:45 a.m.) to help alleviate congestion around the track.

2.       How do I find out when it will be my child’s turn to run?

Waves are run by grade, starting with the youngest. A tentative schedule is above and an updated estimated schedule based on registrants will be available at the check in table on race day. We will do our best to stay on time pending the depth of the age groups. Listen to the announcer for when your wave is next up.

3.      My child’s wave is coming up soon – what should I do?

You should make your way to the transition area (yellow balloons) 10 minutes prior to your child’s race. You will find a banner where the start of all of the waves will take place – behind the start area there is an area with each of the age groups marked appropriately.

4.      What if my child misses their heat?

Today’s event is about your child experiencing their first track event. All of the children will be winners today. Should your child miss their heat you can make your way to the start area and place them with another age-group. Please consider your child’s age and fitness capability should you move them into another heat. Safety and health is our number one concern.

5.      Is there an awards ceremony?

Every child is a winner today at this event. At the end of each heat your child will receive their participation gift and goodies. Should your child miss their gifts at the end of their heat simply come back to the finish line and ask a volunteer for some help.

6.     How many laps for a ½ mile and 1 mile?

4 laps equal ½ mile and 8 laps equal one mile

7.      Does my child need to keep track of their laps?

Yes, your child needs to keep track of their laps by counting as they go. We will have members of Team Minnesota running with your children so they will help as well.

8.      Where are the restrooms?

You will find restrooms and porta-potties at the entry of the building and one in the fieldhouse.

9.      How does my child get involved in a relay?

A relay is a great way for your child to learn about team work. The relay races are run at the end of all other grade level heats. Your child can either find four friends to form a relay team OR make your way to the start area and we will do our best to team up the children by age group.

10.   Where should I find my child after the race?

In the School/Family meeting area. This is located just beyond the finish line and finish chute, near Turnkey Events.

11.  Can parents run with their child?

Only in the preschool wave. All other races are children only.

12.  What is the next Twin Cities In Motion event in which my family could participate?

We have family-friendly events all year round! Join us at the Valentine's Day TC 5K, the Hot Dash 5K & 10 Mile, the Medtronic TC 1 Mile, and the TC Kids Cross Country Fun Run!
