On race day, packet pick up will move to Father Hennepin Bluffs Park.


Paid parking is available at a variety of ramps and lots on either side of the river. Half marathon participants are encouraged to park near their start line on the west side of the Mississippi River.

City of Minneapolis metered spaces are not enforced on Independence Day. Please be aware not all metered spaces in Minneapolis are operated by the City; always read the information posted on the meter to be certain.

Be aware that normal parking rules and fees apply for Minneapolis Parks metered spaces and take note of any hooded meters (no parking). Allow for at least 30 minutes of extra time on race morning; Main Street closes to traffic between 3rd Avenue and 6th Avenue at 5 a.m. and reopens at Noon, West River Parkway closes to traffic between Stone Arch Bridge and Plymouth at 6 a.m. and reopens at 11 a.m. and other streets surrounding the start, finish, and course may be blocked. Please plan your route ahead of time and be respectful of private property.

Half Marathon Training

Our running program is designed by runners and is meant for runners of all abilities. Topics covered in our programs include: finding the proper running shoes, nutrition tips, motivation and how to run a half marathon.

Renaissance Minneapolis Hotel, The Depot 225 3rd Ave South, Minneapolis, MN 55401, is approx. .8 mile from the start area and offers a special rate to participants and spectators under the Red, White & Boom! room block.

  • Book your room online or contact Renaissance Reservations at (612) 375-1700 or 866-211-4611 and ask for the Red, White & Boom! room block to get the group rate of $139.00 for a Standard Room by June 4, 2018.

Friends and family are welcome to come to the race, bring a motivational sign, and watch and cheer on participants! As always, please be respectful of private property and do not enter the race course. Pedestrians are permitted to cross the course at intersections where race officials are present to direct foot traffic.

Run the Boom wherever you are this Fourth of July! The virtual event is perfect for:

  • Friends and families who celebrate the holiday at the cabin, out-of-state, or wherever, who want to run in a 4th of July 5K or half marathon from wherever you are (whenever you want).
  • Building out your own holiday race traditions. Maybe you want to run mid-morning and have post-race Bloody Mary's. Maybe you want an early evening race with post-race s’mores. It's totally up to you!
  • Competitive runners – Design your course, race, and submit your finish time to be included in our official, unofficial results!

Choose to run anytime after you've registered. Be sure to submit your finish time by July 6 to be included in results.

Online registration is available until field fills. If space remains, in person registration will be available on race day.

Registration Notes:

In order for each person to receive registration confirmation, one must provide a unique email address for each unique registration. For example: John and Jane Smith using "smithfamily" for their registrations will only receive one person's confirmation, and one detailed race email.

How can I see if I'm registered?

Registration confirmation for the Red, White & Boom! is online. Click here to access the search function. Enter your first and/or last name and click Apply to search. Click on your name to view your registration confirmation.

Can I transfer from the half marathon to a different distance?

Registrations may NOT be transferred to the relay, but may be transfered to the 5K and registrations for select TCM events may be transferred to another person through the automated TCM transfer process. Registrations may only be transferred within the designated transfer period for each event and within the same event and distance as the original registration. The Red, White & Boom! Transfer deadline is June 20, 2018. Additional fees and restrictions may apply including ineligibility of some registrations completed using an invitation code. Assigned race numbers are never transferable. View step-by-step instructions to begin a transfer. Can I receive a refund or defer my entry to next year?

Refunds are available within 48 hours of registration only. To request a refund, email or call 651-289-7701 within 48 hours of when you submitted your registration. If accepted, you will be refunded your race entry fee; online transaction fees are non-refundable. Deferrals are not permitted.

Can I pick up my friend's packet?

Yes. Please have ready their race number and the correct spelling of the person's name. Registrants will be notified of race numbers in the pre-race email following the end of online registration. Picking up others' packets is limited to FOUR at a time if others are waiting; thanks for understanding. 

Do I have to run the entire time?

No, you may walk or run at any time during the race. Red, White & Boom! participants must, however, be able to maintain an average of 16-minute-per-mile pace throughout the race due to course limits.

Can I run with a stroller?

Strollers are not permitted in the Red, White & Boom! Half Marathon. Strollers are permitted in the Red, White & Boom! 5K. See 5K page for details.
