What guidelines are there for safe social distance running?

TOP COVID-19 RELATED SAFETY TIPS

  • Don’t run if you feel sick

  • Follow all public health guidelines, including social distancing guidelines of staying 6ft from people not in your household

  • Don’t gather in large groups and avoid congregating in common areas - Do not run the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, TC 10 Mile, TC 10K or TC 5K race course at the original start times

  • We discourage runners from unnecessary travel, especially those who are considered an at-risk group

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds

  • Do not touch your eyes, nose and mouth

  • Wear a mask in public settings before and after your run

  • Prepare for limited access to public restrooms and water fountains

  • Share the trail and warn other trail users of your presence as you pass

  • Alter your route or time of day you run if you find it too crowded to ensure appropriate social distancing

TOP GENERAL SAFETY TIPS

  • Follow all traffic and pedestrian laws at all times—roads aren’t closed, so you must be responsible for your own safety and maintain situational awareness

  • If wearing headphones, keep volume down and only wear one ear bud.  Always stay alert and aware of what’s going on around you

  • Drink when you feel thirsty, bring plenty of fluids

  • Run before it gets too hot or on a less humid day

  • If you’re feeling hot, lightheaded, or dizzy during the run slow your pace to prevent overheating

  • Look and listen both ways before crossing

  • Write down or tell someone of your running route and when you plan to run

  • Wear reflective material if you must run before dawn or after dark

  • Carry identification or write your name, phone number, and blood type on the inside sole of your running shoe.  Include any medical information.

  • Run against traffic so you can see approaching automobiles

Can I do my virtual run on the original course?

Participants should NOT run the marathon weekend courses at the start time on the original scheduled date of the event. We encourage all participants to complete their race via a route that starts from your home and to follow proper social distancing guidelines as outlined above.

How will you contact the winners of the social media contests?

We will reach out via either Instagram or Facebook messenger to gather your contact information to deliver the prize to you. Winners will be contacted after October 31, 2020 to ensure everyone can participate in the time frame of the virtual Medtronic Twin Cities Weekend of Events.

If a winner is contacted and we do not hear back within 3 days, the prize will be provided to the next randomly drawn winner.

Will I get a refund or can I defer to next year?

For the future sustainability of our organization, a community 501(c)3 nonprofit, it is not feasible to refund or offer deferments to 2021 events or beyond.  We will be offering a partial credit towards a future event with Twin Cities In Motion.

We understand and sympathize how the pandemic has impacted runners and your investment in events. We have looked at all possible options for 2020 event registration reimbursements. As an organization we are careful stewards of our budgets and will continue to be to ensure we can host community-based running events into the future.

As part of the race planning process, certain fixed costs (e.g., shirts, medals, fulfillment, vendor deposits) all of which are made months, and up to a year ahead of the following race are unrecoverable. The compounding impact of the pandemic crisis has been deeply felt financially at TCM. We appreciate your understanding of the position we are in regarding our refund and deferral policy.
