Communications & Engagement Internship

The Twin Cities In Motion (TCM) Internships serve as part of a high caliber team, which has planned and executed the region’s premier running events since 1982. Our mission is simple - ignite everyone’s inner athlete. 

TCM is a 501 (c) 3 nonprofit that organizes 5 races with 17 distances throughout the year, including the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, to provide opportunities for people of all ages, abilities, and experiences to live an active, healthy lifestyle. Collectively, TCM and its charity partners that fundraise at TCM events give back more than $1 million annually to a variety of causes. 

We have multiple 2022 internships across a broad spectrum of disciplines including Race Operations, Communications, Social Media and Marketing, Volunteer and Registration Management. If more than one of these openings aligns with your skills, we encourage you to identify all positions of interest and share that information with us. 

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Draft, edit, write and prepare e-communications, website copy and other products as assigned. Write for various audiences using appropriate tone and branding  

  • Assist with the tracking of website and media analytics  

  • Serve as an ambassador to the running community. Support marketing booth activations and in-person marketing efforts 

  • Serve as the staff contact for coordinating and managing course entertainment for all TCM events 

  • Serve as staff support for Ambassador support and Marketing Committee projects 

  • Help brainstorm tactics to meet marketing goals 

  • Coordinate special projects and assist in office tasks as directed 

Job Qualifications: 

  • Outgoing, creative, and energetic  

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills. Marketing or journalistic writing experience a plus 

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 

  • Adobe Creative Suite, video production and/or email marketing platform experience a plus 

  • Excellent organizational skills; able to be conscientious and detail oriented 

  • Excellent customer service skills (phone/email/in person) 

  • Able to prioritize and balance multiple projects simultaneously, and work in a fast-paced environment 

  • Able to work as part of a team – interacting with both staff and volunteers 

  • Able to work independently while meeting deadlines important to teammates and the organization 

  • An enthusiasm for running and/or fitness 

  • Ability to regularly lift weights for events up to 25 lbs. and occasionally weights up to 40 lbs. 

  • Desire to be a team player – working with staff, volunteers and event participants 

  • Must be available to attend and work at 2022 TCM events including Hot Dash 5K & 10 Mile (March 19), Women Run the Cities (May 21), Red, White & Boom! (July 4) and Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend (Sept 29 – Oct 2) 

Position Duration: January – December 2022 

Work Schedule:  Monday – Friday office hours, TCM events and other community outreach requests (to be mutually agreed upon) 

Hours Per Week:  typically 15 hours per week; increase in hours available for certain event weeks
