Team USA Minnesota’s Gabriele Grunewald will run in the women’s 1500 meter race at the adidas Grand Prix meet in New York City on June 14. Teammates Meghan Peyton, Eric Finan, Jon Peterson and Travis Burkstrand will be on the West coast to compete in the Portland Track Festival on June 15.
The adidas Grand Prix, held for the 10th year at Icahn Stadium on Randall’s Island, is the sixth stop on the international IAAF Diamond League circuit. The women’s 1500m race will be contested at 5:01 p.m. Eastern time. Grunewald has a best of 4:01.48 in the distance.
In Portland, Peyton, Finan and Peterson will run the 5000 meters and Burkstrand will be among the competitors in the 800 meters. The 800m will be held at 7:20 p.m., followed by the women’s 5000m at 8:55 and the men’s 5000m at 9:15 (all times Pacific). The Portland Track Festival was first held in 2008 and is conducted at Lewis & Clark College.
Peyton has a best in the 5000 of 15:41.1, Finan has run 13:44.91 and Peterson has posted 13:41.93 in the distance. Burkstrand has a mark of 1:47.56 in the 800m. Peyton is running the 5000m as a tune-up for the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships that will be held June 26-29 in Sacramento. She will compete in the 10,000m at USA Outdoor.
Finan and Peterson are seeking the qualifying mark of 13:32 or better in the 5000m in order to compete in Sacramento at the national track championships. Burkstrand is looking to run 1:47.50 or better for his qualifying mark in the 800m.
Team USA Minnesota is based in the Twin Cities. Formed in 2001, the purpose of the training center is to improve the competitiveness of post-collegiate American distance running and to develop Olympians. Twin Cities In Motion is a major sponsor of the program.
