Team USA Minnesota’s Heather Kampf and Gabriele Grunewald will be among the competitors in the USATF High Performance women’s 800 meter race to be held on May 30 as part of the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon.  In Des Moines, Ben Sathre will run in the Dam to Dam Half Marathon on May 31.

The Friday evening Prefontaine Classic events will be shown online at www.USATF.tv beginning at 9:15 p.m. Central time.  The women’s 800m event is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. (Central) at historic Hayward Field.  Kampf has a best in the distance of 2:00.04 and Grunewald has posted 2:01.38 in the 800m.

The Dam to Dam Half Marathon – formerly the Dam to Dam 20K – starts at 7 a.m. at the Saylorville Dam and finishes in downtown Des Moines.  Sathre finished fourth in 2013 when the race was a 20K.  He has a best in the half marathon distance of 1:04:51.

Weekend Results – May 23-26

Travis Burkstrand ran a personal best of 3:42.01 (previous was 3:43.82) in the 1500 meters at the American Track League meet in Austin, Texas, on May 23.  He finished fourth in the event.

In the Bahamas at the IAAF World Relays on May 24, Heather Kampf was the lead-off member of the U.S. women’s 4 x 1500 relay team that finished second.  The team’s time of 16:55.33 is a new American record and also bettered the previous World record for the relay.

On Memorial Day in Minneapolis, Ben Sathre won the men’s race and Meghan Peyton was the women’s winner at the Brian Kraft 5K held around Lake Nokomis.  Sathre’s time was 14:36 and Peyton crossed the finish line in 16:07.

Team USA Minnesota is based in the Twin Cities. Formed in 2001, the purpose of the training center is to improve the competitiveness of post-collegiate American distance running and to develop Olympians. Twin Cities In Motion is a major sponsor of the program.
