Three Team USA Minnesota distance runners – Meghan Peyton, Jon Peterson and Travis Burkstrand –  will compete at the Payton Jordan Invitational in Palo Alto, California, on May 4 and on the same date, Ben Sathre will run the UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon.

At Payton Jordan on Sunday evening, May 4, on the Stanford University campus, Peyton will compete in the 10,000 meters, Peterson will run the 5000 meters, and Burkstrand will race the 1500 meters.

Peyton has a best in the 10,000m of 32:59.11.  Most recently she posted 16:03.99 in the 5000m at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 18 and ran 4:47.80 at the USA 1 Mile Road Championships on April 22. 

Burkstrand has run 3:45.0 in the 1500m and has a best in the mile on the indoor track of 4:00.15.  Peterson has a best in the 5000m of 13:41.93 in the distance. 

Pittsburgh Half Marathon – May 4

Ben Sathre will be among the competitors at the UPMC Health Plan Pittsburgh Half Marathon on May 4.  The Half Marathon is part of the Pittsburgh Marathon weekend of events and begins at 7 a.m.  The course crosses three rivers and finishes in downtown Pittsburgh.

Sathre has a best in the half marathon distance of 1:04:51 which he posted at the USA Half Marathon Championships in Houston in January. 

Weekend Results – April 25-26

In the Drake Relays 1500 meters in Des Moines on April 25, Heather Kampf was third with a time of 4:07.15, which was a personal best (previous was 4:08.37), and Gabriele Grunewald finished 11th in 4:17.66.

At the Get in Gear 10K in Minneapolis on April 26, Jon Peterson was second with a time of 29:52.  He also was the USATF Minnesota 10K champion and first Minnesotan in the race.

Team USA Minnesota is based in the Twin Cities. Formed in 2001, the purpose of the training center is to improve the competitiveness of post-collegiate American distance running and to develop Olympians. Twin Cities In Motion is a major sponsor of the program.
