Heather Kampf, Gabriele Grunewald, Meghan Peyton, Travis Burkstrand and Jon Petersonwill be among the competitors at the USA 1 Mile Road Championships to be held in downtown Des Moines, Iowa, on Tuesday evening, April 22. 

The 1 Mile Road Championships are being hosted by the Grand Blue Mile, part of the Drake Relays week of events.  At last year’s race in Des Moines, Kampf finished third, Grunewald was fifth and Peyton crossed the line in 12th place. This will be the first appearance at the 1 Mile Road Championships for Burkstrand and Peterson.

Kampf, who won the 2012 USA 1 Mile Road Championships, has a best in the distance of 4:27.1. Grunewald, who is the 2014 USA Indoor 3000-meter Champion, has run 4:21.3 for the mile on the roads.  Peyton’s best is 4:40.5.

Burkstrand set his mile best on the indoor track over the winter, posting 4:00.15 in the distance. Peterson has a 1500-meter best of 3:42.78.

B.A.A. Invitational Mile – April 19

Heather Kampf was second in a close finish at the B.A.A. Invitational Mile in Boston today with a time of 4:44.3 (first place was 4:44.0).  Last year on the three-lap course that finishes on Boylston Street, site of the Boston Marathon finish line, Kampf was third in 4:53.5.  This was Kampf’s second appearance at the B.A.A. Mile.

Team USA Minnesota is based in the Twin Cities. Formed in 2001, the purpose of the training center is to improve the competitiveness of post-collegiate American distance running and to develop Olympians. Twin Cities In Motion is a major sponsor of the program.
