Making a Run at the TC Loony Challenge
For some, the idea of the TC Loony Challenge (running the TC 5K, TC 10K and Medtronic TC 10 Mile in one weekend) may sound, well, a little loony. But for Laura Gintant and her boyfriend Jason Moffett, it seemed like they perfect way to celebrate completing a year-long running goal.
After graduating from college, Laura and Jason starting running together to help stay in shape. Along the way they found running was also a great way to spend time with each other. But the happy running couple found that it was easy to cut running out of their schedule if they weren’t training for a race.
So they decided to run a 5K each month, for a year. They started in May of 2013 and have been running ever since. It hasn’t been easy given this year’s bitter cold winter. In December, the temperature was -9F on race day and the Valentine’s Day TC 5K, presented by Marathon Sports was in the single digits. So when it comes down to it, the Loony Challenge may not seem as crazy as some of their sub-zero runs.
Laura and Jason’s year of 5Ks ends this May, but are looking at other running races to keep them occupied until the TC Loony Challenge. In fact, Jason has signed up for his first half-marathon and Laura will be running alongside him to help him train, as he has done in the past for her.
So, what keeps them going? Having each other as running buddies.
“This has been a great experience for us; we push each other during our races and have made a lot of memories together!” Laura said. “We both want to continue to keep running as something we do together.”
Laura and Jason, best of luck at the TC Loony Challenge and all of your other races before then!
