  1. Name: Kourtney Thomas
  2. Age (or rough estimate): 28
  3. City: St. Louis, MO
  4. Profession: Personal Trainer, Running Coach, Spinning Instructor
  5. Been running since: 2009.  I spent most of my life saying I couldn't run, and that was a silly mental block.  Thank goodness I finally tried it--it has quickly turned into my passion!
  6. What made you start? My husband and I had just finished up the P90X training program, and needed a new challenge.  We went to our local running store, got fitted for shoes, and walked out the door with a run/walk program.  10 weeks later, we were running 30 minutes non-stop, and celebrated with a Turkey Trot!
  7. Training program you follow: I wrote my own marathon training program based on several sources learned in my coaching education, as well as a few suggestions from accomplished marathoners I know.
  8. Best run/running experience: Beating my personal best by almost 10 minutes in my second half marathon, the Rock N' Roll St. Louis Half Marathon last year.  To show that much improvement in 6 months was a huge achievement for me, as someone who has never considered herself an athlete.
  9. Worst run/running experience: The St. Louis Track Club Frostbite Series 4 miler last year.  We had an insane ice storm that coated the roads in half an inch of pure ice.  No traction, and racers still trying to push.  Amazing I escaped with no injuries and a fast enough time to place in my age group.
  10. Dream training partner: Shalane Flanagan.  She is out of this world.  Silent assassin style.  Love her!
  11. Training shoe: My all time favorite is the Brooks PureConnect, but for marathon training, I have switched to the Ghost.
  12. Favorite running route: LSU Lakes in Baton Rouge, LA.
  13. Pre-run food: Whole grain toast with almond butter, about a half a cup of OJ or an orange, coffee.
  14. Post-run food: Chocolate milk for a short run; eggs, toast, and oatmeal for a long run.
  15. Training gadget: I use a Garmin 210.
  16. Goals? I'd love to run Big Sur.  One day, I'd like to try to qualify for Boston.
  17. Upcoming races? The Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon!  My first marathon!  Then a series of short races through the winter.
  18. Favorite non-running activities: Riding our Harley with my husband, reading, snuggling with our miniature dachshund.
  19. Mode of transportation (other than your legs): Honda Accord coupe.
  20. Music: I don't listen to music when I run, but I listen to literally everything when I am driving or cleaning the house!
