Participant Services and Events Intern

Twin Cities In Motion (TCM) is searching for a part-time Intern. TCM is the nonprofit organization responsible for organizing and hosting the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon – a top ten US marathon and “The Most Beautiful Urban Marathon in America”®. TCM also organizes and hosts a year-long calendar of running events that include the Medtronic TC 10 Mile, TC 10K, TC 5K run/walk and Medtronic TC Family Events, Medtronic TC 1 Mile, Valentine’s Day TC 5K, 100% Irish For A Day TC 5K and TC 10 Mile, Red, White & Boom! TC Half Marathon and all related events, as well as the Medtronic TC Kids Marathon program and events. TCM is a respected industry leader for the past 30 years, strives to give the best experience possible to runners, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, spectators, and the community.


TCM is searching for a part-time Intern to support the planning and execution of its year-round events. This position will support the areas of participant services, special events and professional athletes.


Term: April – December, 2014 (though the Intern or TCM will be free to end the relationship sooner). 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide front-line customer service to the public

  • Perform office administrative functions

  • Support Participant Services & Events Manager in the planning and execution of the following areas:Provide event and program support before, during, and after 2014 Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend of Events (October 3-5), as well as at various Twin Cities In Motion events throughout 2014.

    • Participant Services – Corporate Team Challenge, Charity Program, Training Teams & Course Entertainment

    • Special Events – VIP events, Health & Fitness Expo, volunteer events

    • Professional Athletes

  • Additional intern responsibilities

    • Attending regular staff meetings

    • Other duties as assigned

Attire: Ordinarily workday casual in the office

Work Schedule: Primarily 2-3 days per week, occasional evening meetings and weekend events

Hours Per Week: 15

Degree(s) Seeking:

Bachelors in Sport Management or Related Field

Masters in Sport Management or Related Field

Classification: Upper-level undergraduate or graduate student


  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

  • Must be conscientious and detail oriented

  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office

  • Able to prioritize and work in a busy, fast-paced, deadline-driven environment

  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously

  • Must be available to attend and work at TCM events

  • Provide excellent customer service (phone/email/in person)

  • Work as part of a team – interacting skillfully with staff, volunteers, and event participants

Pay: $ 7.25 per hour


This position primarily reports to the Participant Services & Events Manager.
