The staff at TCM prides itself in its culture. This group thrives on teamwork, respect, and fun (and of course, good food)!
Virginia Brophy Achman- Executive Director
Virginia joined the TCM team in June 2000 as Race Operations Manager, became Race Director in 2003, and Executive Director in 2004. She recently completed term as President of the Board of Directors for Running USA, also serving on the advisory Board of Directors for Team USA Minnesota and Bolder Options. In December 2008, she was elected Chair of Women's Long Distance Running for USATF. As a volunteer, Virginia has been involved with Susan G. Komen Twin Cities for 16 years, and has served as Chair of Registration for a 46,000 person event for the last 10 years. Virginia is a marathon runner, and has completed seven 26.2 mile races.
Jeff Decker- Race Director
Jeff is the race director and a recent addition to Team TCM. Before TCM, Jeff worked for New York Road Runners for over six years. He has worked more than 200 events including six New York City Marathons. After mastering the phrase "fughetaboutit" and ordering several thousand portable toilets, Jeff decided to move to Minnesota. You betcha he is excited to be here and dun cha know he's glad to be closer to his home state of Iowa. Go Duhawks!
Terry Ryan- Sales Director
For some of us, a love of running comes natural and for others, it has to be learned. Terry is one of the others. As a junior high student, Terry dabbled in other sports, mainly football. He thinks his love for running developed as he was being chased down the football field by guys twice his size, where outrunning his opponents was nearly a matter of life and death. He's continued to run on and off over his adult life, running 12 marathons and countless other road races. He's been a coach for a local running group and a volunteer for a number of road races, including the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon. Terry joined the staff a little over five years ago.
Breanne Hegg- Marketing & Media Director
Breanne's loves of running and marketing came together in this position, which combines her many years of experience in marketing with her passion for physical fitness. She knew she'd found her home when she was presented with a stack of tech shirts on her first day and was welcomed at the lunch table by several coworkers who had also brought quinoa. Breanne enjoys the balance of diving into spreadsheets, analytics and marketing plans while also exploring the creative execution of TCM's brand. A fiercely proud Minnesotan, Breanne can often be seen running around the Lakes with her husband and two young daughters.
Sandy Unger- Youth Programs & Community Outreach Manager
Sandy is a recovering New Yorker, having been born and raised there. She settled in Minnesota right out of graduate school and fell in love with the people and the green spaces and only goes back to NY to visit friends and for an adrenaline rush. After spending a "lifetime" working for multiple municipal Park and Recreation Departments, School Districts and non-profits, she found a place with TCM. When not helping kids develop healthy lifestyles by learning to love running, she can be found traveling the world, geocaching, collecting matchbooks, cooking, and providing leadership to local and national non-profits helping to prevent Domestic Violence.
Greg Haapala- Participant Services and Events Manager
Greg joined TCM in summer 2012 and hails from the Motor City. Prior to coming to Minnesota, he worked in college athletics at the University of Detroit Mercy, where his main responsibilities were ticket operations, event management, and sometimes donning the mascot costume when students were on break. Greg is excited to bring his love of running and race events to the Twin Cities. His responsibilities with TCM include organizing the Health & Fitness Expo, 27th Mile, and other fun events, as well as working with Charity Partners and Corporate Teams. Outside of work, Greg will likely be found running trails, watching his beloved Detroit/Michigan sports teams, or taste testing local brews.
Catherine Bishop- Registration Coordinator
Catherine keeps everything in working order with our event registration. You'll often find her working on two computer screens at the same time with her Shih Tzu, Dutchess, lying nearby. Catherine started working for TCM in 1999 before online registration was available and was paid $.25 for each registrant she entered in the database. She did seasonal data entry for 5 years before coming on board in a year-round capacity. Not really a runner before working at TCM, Catherine has worked her way up to become a half marathoner!
Lindsey Altermatt- Administrative Coordinator
Lindsey, the voice of TCM keeps the physical office in motion by keeping up with office supplies, providing administrative support to managers, and providing every day frontline customer service. Lindsey also spends time helping with course operations. Favorite activities include: keeping the coffee industry in business, working out at Life Time Fitness with her husband, spending time with her daughter and drinking wine around a bonfire!
Molly Libra- Race Operations Manager
Molly’s involvement with TCM started over 10 years ago as a volunteer on the marathon course. In 2011 she began working as an intern for TCM and was hired on as the Race Operations Manager at the end of her internship. When she is not at her computer, she can be found moving pallets around in the warehouse to make room for shipments of everything from post-race food to participant gifts.
Kelli Bartholow- Operations & Volunteer Manager
Kelli, a former Twin Cities In Motion staff member and volunteer, joins the staff after serving as the Outreach Coordinator at Bolder Options, a local non-profit organization focused on healthy youth development through mentoring, wellness activities, and leadership opportunities. Her responsibilities at Twin Cities In Motion include recruiting and organizing the 6,000 volunteers needed to manage our year-round events. Kelli grew up in Shoreview, MN and graduated from the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities with a B.S. in Sport Management. Kelli has a passion for running and loves spending time with her two favorite people in the world: her toddler trotting nieces, Zoë and Cora.
Vanessa Graetz- Online Engagement Manager

Charlie Mahler- Media and Communications Manager
You may know Charlie from the website Down the Backstretch where blogged about Minnesota running and track for the last six years. In 1999, our very own Charlie was the winner of the inaugural Medtronic TC 10 Mile with a time of 52:01. Charlie still enjoys running, reading, cycling, and being active in the outdoors.

She just graduated from Hamline University with a degree in Psychology. As the captain for Track and Cross Country, Maria spends much of her free time running with her team. She loves to share her musical talents with the West Wing, often singing along to songs from The Sound of Music.
Beth Libbesmeier- Marketing and Communications Intern
Bethany joined the TCM crew in January of 2014. She just graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Business and Marketing Education. She provides assistance with managing e-communications, website copy, social media posts, blog posts and the tracking of analytics. She eagerly celebrated her 21st birthday at the 100% Irish for a Day race with her birthday sharing twin-Mom where she enthusiastically ran the 10 mile all the way to the post-race beer garden. She enjoys a good chunk of chocolate and running along the historic Stone Arch Bridge to conventionally gawk at engagement photo sessions.
